Student examples
Lesson 1 - Compare and contrast fairytales.
- Firstly, we read some interesting alternative versions of well known fairytales including Little Red Riding Roo and Goldilocks by Dave Jones, Jack and The Beanstalk by Mindshapes Apps and Mr. Wolf and the Ginger Cupcakes and Puss in Boots by Blue Quoll Apps.
- Students then completed a compare and contrast activity, identifying the similarities and differences between teh traditional tale and the retold tale.
- In pairs, students then planned and wrote their own fairytale, loosely based on a well-known favourite.
- After planning and drafting, students published their stories in an eBook format using the ScribblePress app. Students had to draw their own illustrations. Some chose to use photographs they took of staged scenes.

Lesson 3 - iMovie Trailer
- Once students had completed writing and publishing their fractured fairytale they had to create a movie trailer designed to entice people to want to read their story.
- Students were given no instructions on how to use iMovie, they simply explored and experimented. I was quite impressed with how quickly they worked it out. As groups worked out the basics, we shared tips and tricks using the Apple TV in our room. This was a great collaborative learning experience. I was quite impressed with their final trailers considering they had no formal instruction on how to use the app or how to put together a trailer.
